Best football Books (inc. 5aside): Surprisingly Good Football Reads

Relax: We’ve put together some fascinating football reads Steve Bruce, yes Steve Bruce, the best defender never to be capped for England/journeyman Manager/Manchester United legend has, believe it or not, been writing for years. Only recently was his nom de plume (the rather unimaginative) Steve Barnes revealed to be Brucey.

Steve has released at least 3 football related fiction books: ‘Striker!’, ‘Sweeper!’ & ‘Defender!’ – Note the ‘!’ there, which we imagine is intended to convey the drama and suspense of the crime thrillers.

When interviewed on his literary past Bruce told Sky Sports the books were indeed “genuine” and when asked why he hasn’t written anymore, he said: “Have you read them? Go and read them and you’ll understand why.” – Classic Brucey!
